high country…
Does it look cold in this shot ? Well one thing I can tell you is that it was ! This little hut was at about 1300m ASL and the conditions were a mixture of snow, sleet, fog, wind and mud – it certainly sounds like fun doesn’t it ! Perhaps this is part of the reason I usually trek off to the tropics at this time of the year…
But one thing for sure is that the winter season in Victoria can be very photogenic in it’s own right. So whilst here for the winter this year I may as well make the most of it !
‘Howqua Gap Hut’
Hi Tony,
This is a great shot, exactly how i would imagine the high country to be and yest it does look cold.
Thanks,
Jamie Paterson
hey Jamie – yeah this is what the high country looks like just below the tree line..Above is totally different – the high plains are awesome ! I’ll endeavour to dig something out from there and post it in the future.
🙂
Ditto Jamie’s comment. It’s something straight out of my mostly uninformed imagination about the high country. Was it at freezing temp?
hi Charlene,
Yes it was cold – temperatures at that location were hovering around 0-1C.
Hi Tony, great shot in crappy conditions. Winter brings some great opportunities its just a matter of braving the cold to actually get out there, well done the image is kind of haunting.
Cheers Michael – yeah it does and the rewards can be very satisfying. I relished taking a series of shots of foggy type scenes that w/e – this being one of them.
cheers,
Certainly does look cold. I’d want to relight that fire and sit right by it! Nice shot as usualy, Tony. Love that foggy atmosphere.
haha Beau – But goodluck finding something dry enough to burn though…You can just make out some thin patches of snow on the ground in the bottom left of frame. 🙂
very nice Tony
i love shot’s like this!
i hope you have many more to come with the fog like this 🙂
Thanks Stephen, you are right – I have a bit of a variety of foggy/misty shots from last w/e. brrr
That looks very much like a winter in Denmark, a little too much for my liking 🙂 Though the mist effect in the trees is very nice.
haha Flemming – I understand the dull tones and misty mood may be a little too wintery for you…but surely Denmark can’t have huts like these at 1300mASL with eucalypts ! 🙂
Hehehe, no it was more the mood I was referring to not the hut, height and gum trees 😀 Highest point in Denmark is 173mASL – so no 1300mASL huts there 🙂
haha – yeah I know Flem, I knew Denmark didn’t even crack 200m…Not that our Aussie mountains reach any astonishing heights on a global scale these days either.. 🙂
hell yeah it looks cold. would have been warmer if the fire was throwing some flame. i did see a vert pano of yours on rb recently which i liked – a hut with a nice cover of snow.
Cheers Cain,
Just sharing the love around ! 🙂
Great atmosphere!!!
cheers Andrew – thanks for stopping by 🙂
